I have a habit of diving into new hobbies and getting bored within a matter of months. I guess I enjoy the learning process up to a point, and fizzle out when it comes to putting in the time to master a new skill. I like to think of myself as more of a collector of hobbies, rather than a serial quitter.
With that in mind, I tried to conceive a blog name that highlighted the ineptitude of my latest pursuit. Since the name Bad Astronomer is famously occupied (and ironic), I stuck with something decidedly more self-deprecating: Stellar Neophyte.
Maybe 10 years from now I'll be able to look back at my first amateur attempts to photograph something resembling stars. Or maybe this interest will run its course in the next few months. Either way, I am sentimental about creating chronicles. I like the idea that something will last, and that something can have a history. Every blog needs a sappy maiden-voyage post, after all.
